Hi, brand new to the forum. I just bought a 2007 Kawasaki Brute Force 650. I bought the bike from a buddy who needed money. I paid more than I should have but it is what it is. The previous owner (my buddy) told me I needed to spray fuel into the carbs to get it to run as it sat a long time. I brought it home and it sat two more months before I moved across Canada bringing it with me. After moving I decided I would see if I could get it running. I sprayed some fuel in the carbs and sure enough it ran. Not well, but it did run. I road it for about an hour or so before I parked it. That was two days ago. I decided to rebuild the carbs today. Spent the day and went through them making sure they are all good. After spending the day on it and putting it all back together, I took it for a rip. Ran great for about five minutes then no forward drive gear. Reverse works fine but nothing forward, high or low.... I reeeeeeealy dont want to be rebuilding a transmission. I am new to Kawasaki ATVs and am not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreacited. Thanks

Disconnect the shift rod and manually move the shift shaft coming out of the transmission. If you still only have reverse and the detents feel to be in their normal place, then she has a damaged or broken fork..and that means a full tear down and rebuild. If by chance you do now have H & L and it moves, check the motor mount bolts...all of then including the rear plate bolts, then reinstall the shift rod adjusting so that both detents line up.

Hi! Thanks for the help. I disconnected the shift lever and pulled the shift rod as far forward as it would go. Nothing. Pushed it rearward and it went into neutral then reverse. It did grind a little but went in and worked in reverse. Tried forward again and nothing. No grinding, no banging, no shift feeling, nothing at all. Doesn't look good I guess...

The shift drum is probably shot. - You need to pull the engine and open the engine up if this is a problem.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Finally got the case apart and well everything was way out of wack. Even the bearings split. Id say previous damage from years of being ridden hard through the woods wide open. I have since sold the bike at a loss to a Kawasaki mechanic. Live and learn I suppose. But just wanted to say hanks to everyone for the help.
